As a collection development librarian, I receive a number of complimentary magazines for review. These magazine represent an extreme range of interests from broad to narrow (education vs. horse clubs). Last week, as I was flipping through the January/February 2020 issue of Currents, I came across this wonderfully inspiring article detailing the creation of the magazine cover to the left.
My own personal ethos regarding design is that it should always express some level of creativity and personality, through either the concept or execution (and ideally, both). This piece is intensely fun, from the use of a number of non-traditional materials to a call back to one of the more lovable eccentric traits of the lead character (below).

This movie has remained relevant beyond its Idaho fan base because of its quirkiness and heart which the designers captured perfectly. Read more about the process in creating this work here and maybe make room for some tots.
